A quick note on mental health.

A lot is said about how much our society has evolved in many aspects, but only in the last two years — probably a result of the COVID thing who turned even the best of us into an individual relatively mentally deranged — has talking about mental health seemed to become widespread. I mean, even though there are a lot of people who make it seem like it is still not a big deal, I believe I am being fair enough when I point out that the great majority of society has come into the agreement that we should all take care of it.

Due to that, a vast number of methods have been tried out in order to pick out the ones which are valuable. Undeniably, fake news is a real thing nowadays, so make sure you are not going to keep on trying out questionable ways to help yourself make it through the day. If you can and are willing to spend some money, then why don’t you let a professional take care of you? Be aware of the fact that some of those widely known methods are not necessarily reliable. And the same goes for those slimming-down chemicals or language learning courses promoted by a large number of those self-proclaimed “coaches” online.

So, when it comes down to what people do to preserve their mental health, there is a lot to say. Some people (me included) love to slow down a bit every once in a while. For example, it just looks to me as though it is necessary for me to keep away from my daily activities whenever I can, especially if they are the very ones which make me weary. Normally, it is the people involved in certain activities, rather than the tasks themselves, who make me gloomy. I concede I might have a huge problem communicating how I feel, but most people seem to be out there just to screw us over. Since I can only control what I do — and I mean that in the best Sartre’s quote way of living –, I keep myself away from them as much as I can (even if I am there physically, I might be far distant in my head, living in a much sweeter environment) so as not to end up grabbing their necks!

And that brings me to another coping mechanism of mine — dissociation! Not seldom have I been honest about how in touch I am with such strategy. Every now and then, I talk about how this helps me in terms of creating an image in my head that is far more exciting than the deep garbage I am surrounded by. In a moment of grief, Wanda Maximoff did the same. That might be the reason why thousands of fans relate to that series which features her as the main character. I bet there are way more people doing it out there just the way I am.

Last but not least, comfort foods are also a topic to be considered when talking about coping mechanisms. Worst of all were the times when I had to eat those pricey and carcinogenic burgers from McDonald’s in order to feel a sense of joyful peace. I would be lying if I said I quit this behavior, but right now I understand why I keep having such horrible meals there. Moreover, based on the average weight of the population, I might as well have to state that Brazilians do that a lot as well. Should they be eating hamburgers at McDonald’s? I don’t think so. Should they be drinking endless bottles of beer? I highly agree with this statement!
